On January 28, 2009, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council met with Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Klaus Schwab in Davos, Switzerland.

The WEF has played an important role of promoting international economic and technological exchanges and cooperation and advancing the sound economic and social development worldwide, noted Wen. Over the past 30 years, as China is increasingly integrated into the international community, its cooperation with the WEF has been strengthened. He expressed hope that the Summer Davos Forum would be held in China permanently so as to complement the Winter Davos and send out more voice of wisdom.

He said that the annual meeting 2009, being held against the storm of international financial crisis, has drawn attention worldwide. It is far-sighted to select the theme of “Shaping the Post-Crisis World”. We should not only cope with the financial crisis actively but also think about how to promote the healthy growth of the post-crisis world economy. The international community should build confidence and enhance cooperation in order to the overcome difficulties. China hopes to bring about friendship, hope and confidence to the annual meeting. The winter of Davos is beautiful, and its spring will be even more beautiful.

Schwab noted that China, as a country with great economic influence and political responsibility in the world, is implementing vigorous and responsible measures to tackle the international financial crisis. The world is watching closely the trend of Chinese economy and paying close attention to China’s role of dragging the global economy out of crisis and expects to receive positive messages from China at the annual meeting. The WEF attaches great importance to the cooperation with China and will make every effort to ensure the success of the Summer Davos Forum.

At invitation, Wen also attended the work luncheon hosted by Schwab, exchanged opinions with the chief executives of leading multinational companies present at the banquet and answered their questions. Later he also met with representatives of the WEF International Business Council and International Media Council.
